Engineer Alan Baker
Alan Baker has been with the Newport Beach Fire Department since 1992.  After serving as a paramedic for 4 years, he was recently promoted to Engineer.  Alan is the lead instructor of Emergency Building Shores and Trench Rescue for California Mountaineering Co. (CMC), teaching throughout the U.S.  He also teaches Rope Rescue and Emergency Management Building Shores with Santa Ana College out of the North Net training Center in Anaheim.  In his fire service career, Alan has responded to the LA Civil Unrest and Laguna Fires.  He has an Associates Degree in Fire Science and leads an active life with interests in water and motorcycles.

Captain Rob Beuch
Rob has worked for the Newport Beach Fire Department since 1980.  He was named Fire Fighter of the Year in 1998 and has twice received the department’s nomination for the Orange County Fire Service Overachiever Award.  Rob coordinates the department’s Public Safety Day held each October, teaches Multi-Victim Incident procedures at the Orange County Paramedic Academy, serves on the Quality Assurance Board for the OC Board of Supervisors, and has assisted in the coordination of the 1998 Mass Casualty Drill.  Rob has been married for 18 years and has two children.

Erin has been employed with Newport Beach since 2000.  After completing probation, Erin attended Paramedic school and currently works in that capacity.  Erin attended UC Santa Barbara and achieved her Bachelor's degree in Psychology while also playing basketball.  Erin also earned her Associates of Science degree in Fire Technology at Santa Ana College.  Erin is the first female firefighter to be employed by the City of Newport Beach. Erin has been married for three years.

Chip has been with the Newport Beach Fire Department since 1987.  Chip comes from a “fire family” with his father also having been a firefighter.  He is a Paramedic, serves as a Paramedic Preceptor, and instructs for both Santa Ana College and the Orange County Sheriff’s Department.  In the past, Chip has worked for the California Department of Forestry as a Reserve and has been on the Hazardous Materials Team with the Fire & Marine Department.  Chip lives in Carlsbad with his wife and two children.

Katie Freeman, Administrative Analyst

Katie comes to us with experience as the Assistant Emergency Services Coordinator with Huntington Beach Fire Department, specializing in Disaster Preparedness and Weapons of Mass Destruction programs. Katie earned her degree, a Bachelor of Science in Public Administration, supported by a focus in Political Science, from California State University- Fullerton in the Spring of 2003. Katie began her career with Huntington Beach Fire Department as an intern while attending college.  

Although a resident of Costa Mesa for the past three years, Katie was born and raised in San Dimas, CA. Enjoying the life away from commitments, Katie loves traveling and spending time with friends and family.

Lifeguard Captain Mike Halphide
Mike Halphide has worked as a Newport Beach Lifeguard for since 1984, beginning as a seasonal lifeguard and currently serving as Lifeguard Training Captain. He is assigned as the Junior Lifeguard Program coordinator.  Mike has graduate training in Critical Incident Stress Debriefing and Disaster psychology.  Mike lives in Newport Heights with his wife Tracy and three children.  Mike instructs and Disaster Psychology Class and assists in teaching the CPR section of the classes. Mike was named Marine Safety Supervisor of the year in 2002.
Lifeguard Captain Brent Jacobsen
Brent Jacobsen has worked as a lifeguard since 1987 and became a Lifeguard Lieutenant in 1994. He currently supervises the Boat Division of Lifeguards. Brent was named Marine Safety Supervisor of the year in 1998. Brent is a Red Cross Emergency Response Instructor and oversees lifeguard first aid training. He is an American Red Cross and American Heart Association CPR instructor. Brent is a rescue boat operator and comes from a family of lifeguards. Brent’s sister Robin is a Junior Lifeguard Instructor and his brother Brad was a lifeguard in West Newport. Brent’s father retired from the city lifeguard service in 1991as the Lifeguard Chief. Brent went to USC for his undergraduate's degree and to Southwestern University School of Law and is an attorney.  Brent grew up on Balboa Island and now lives in Newport Heights with his wife and children.

Robert Masonis is a veteran firefighter since 1983.  He serves as the Senior Instructor for the State of California in the area of Search and Rescue, Structural Building Collapse, Trench Rescue, and Rope Rescue. He instructs Nationwide for F.E.M.A. to all USAR teams and is a member of the Incident Support Team, responding to National Emergencies. Robert is also the Safety Officer for F.E.M.A Task Force 6.  In between all this he writes instruction manuals for the State Fire Marshall's Office in Sacramento that are used Statewide.

Glenn has been a Firefighter since 1983 beginning his career in Newport Beach in 1987.  He has been a Hazardous Materials Team member for 10 years and he has served as a Paramedic.  Glenn is the Program Coordinator and Instructor for Jr. Fire Fighter program in the public schools, as well as a CPR instructor, Fire Fighter Academy instructor, and Paramedic Preceptor for Saddleback College. Glenn has 2 children and is active in community, sports and church activities.
Lifeguard Captain Mitch White
Mitch has been a lifeguard with the City of Newport Beach for since 1977 with the first 12 years as a Seasonal Lifeguard and since 1987 in a full time position.  Mitch grew up in Newport Beach where he still resides with his wife and four children.  Mitch has been a CPR Instructor since 1982 and a Newport Lifeguard Training Instructor since 1985.  Mitch also teaches CPR in both Newport Beach high schools and serves as the Regional Affiliate Faculty for the American Heart Association.
